Composition
Concentrated improvisation. Listening into the sounds. Considering them. Rejecting. Searching. Finding. Putting it all together.
I wrote my first pieces while resident at the Pauline Oliveros Foundation in Kingston, NY. Pauline Oliveros took a look at my jottings, that were spread all over the floor, and decided that they were a score. This was my birth as a composer: a score can consist of words, it can be a recipe—a little bit of this, a little of that. Over time the recipes turned into shapes of sounds. Words turned into notes.
My mini opera “Bazaar,” which premiered in November 2012 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, includes both of the above: performance instructions and more or less traditional choral pieces.
